Research at Northwestern Medicine

Northwestern Medicine physicians not only provide excellent clinical care, but also perform research and participate in medical education locally and nationally. The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Northwestern Medicine is currently ranked #4 in the nation for funded research projects from the National Institutes of Health (NIH).  

Our experts lead and participate in a variety of research activities that are constantly evolving into the next generation of clinical treatments, including a particular focus on research pertaining to our Division of Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery:

• Leading research in aromatase inhibitors, antiprogestins, and disparities in access to care
• NIH merit award in endometriosis (Northwestern Medicine is the only center in the U.S. with this award)
• NIH center grant, which led to the development of the only fibroid research center in the country
