At the Northwestern Medicine Center for Complex Gynecology (CCG), we recognize that each patient is unique, and we are proud to offer a tailored treatment plan that may include many other services provided in the same building:
Physiatry: A physiatrist is a physician with training and clinical expertise in chronic pelvic pain, pelvic floor muscle dysfunction, pelvic rehabilitation and pregnancy-related low back and pelvic girdle pain. Physical Therapy: Pelvic floor physical therapy is a treatment approach that uses the principles of physical therapy to provide a structured, effective and safe reconditioning of pelvic floor muscles. The goal of the treatment is to improve the strength and function of pelvic floor muscles and alleviate pain, weakness and dysfunction in the muscles. During the treatment, a skilled physical therapist accesses the muscles through the rectum or vagina and makes manipulations on them to improve their strength and functioning. The therapist may either stretch the muscles if they are short and contracted or apply resistance to improve strength if they are weak and dysfunctional. Emotional Support: Our team understands that for many women, the experience of pelvic pain, abnormal uterine bleeding, painful sexual intercourse and other gynecological conditions can be frustrating and result in emotional distress. We are equipped to help you cope with the emotional toll that treatment may take on you, your spouse and other members of your family. Learn more about our emotional support services. Sexual Health: The Center for Sexual Medicine and Menopause at Northwestern Memorial Hospital is a destination for women of all ages who require highly specialized care. This center offers both hormonal and non-hormonal medical therapies. |
